Goal

Utilizing Geobacter sulfurreducens, a bacteria that generates electricity from its protein nanowires.

• G. sulfurreducens can utilize acetate and other organic compounds as electron donors, oxidizing them to carbon dioxide.
• It's a key player in the oxidation of organic matter in anaerobic environments, using abundant metal oxides as electron sinks. Birnessite and goethite are examples of metal oxides that G. sulfurreducens can reduce.
• It facilitates electron transfer from the cell to insoluble electron acceptors, like metal oxides, through pili that act as "nanowires".

• Bioelectric Postcards: Utilize paper or fabric circuitry with conductive tape, laser cutting, and small outputs like LED or piezobuzzers, using the bacteria as the electricity source.
